Information sharing between HM Prison, RCIPS and the Courts

A complainant felt that certain information shared between the Prison Service and the RCIPS had been processed unlawfully. They also complained that some of this information, including personal data, had been inappropriately shared in court.
We investigated the complaint and found that an exemption applied to the data sharing, and no breach of the DPA was evident. In addition, the Ombudsman has no jurisdiction over the Courts, so we were unable to come to any conclusions on the disclosure in court. The complaint was not supported and the case was closed with no further action.
